I often wondered what it meant to be matured but never really dwelled much on it until today when a colleague randomly asked “What determines maturity?” I stopped in my tracks dumbfounded, it took me more than two minutes to answer because I felt it was a tricky question to answer in an instant. My very flat answer was “Actions I think” but I was still uncertain. The topic went on and on but still ended without any satisfying answer.
It was only on my way back when from work that the whole conversation came back to haunt me, yes my mind doesn't let go that easily.
In my own words:
Maturity is being yourself at all times without compromising, know what you want, be able to go after what you want, be accountable for your actions and always stand by your principles. It is very important to distinguish between right and wrong, understand that life comes with responsibilities and know that every decision made will impact your life somehow.
Maturity doesn’t come with age, I believe it comes with wisdom and experience; it takes experience for some of us to become matured.
Maturity to me means understanding yourself, believing in yourself, motivating yourself and always striving to be the best version of yourself. It also means you to inspire others to do better through your actions, willing to help without expecting anything in return, judge less and teach more.
Lastly but not least; maturity comes with understanding that it’s not always honey and milk in this journey of life, not everyone will be happy for you, not everyone is your friend and not everyone has the best interest at heart for you.
That’s my opinion of maturity!
